There is one thing that is very baffling about us as Ghanaians, which is that we know exactly what our problems are, but we never seem able, or willing to solve them.
Since I was old enough to know what the word maintenance culture meant, I knew that was one of the biggest problems we had. When the then Accra Sports Stadium was being renovated for CAN 2008, I remember several journalists and pundits predicting that after the tournament it would be left to its fate- so we knew the problem, but we let it hit us anyway.
First to be destroyed was the pitch, due to constant use without any maintenance. And now the entire edifice itself is close to collapsing. It is a dire warning that has been given several times, but no one is inclined to heed to it in any way.
So you can see below the photos of the death trap our premiere stadium has degenerated into. And death trap is the appropriate term, because it would be stupid to wait for disaster to strike before we label is as such.
